Taigh Ciùil Cottage Diary

Welcome to the cottage diary for Taigh Ciùil, a place where you can read some of the feedback from my guests.

27th Jan - 2nd Feb 2013

We got married surrounded by snow on January 26th 2013 and chose Mull for our honeymoon.  Despite it being out of season we still found plenty to see and do.  The cottage proved to be an incredibly comfortable base. It had everything that we could possibly need and was amazingly warm and cosy.  Weatherwise, we were pretty lucky.  We went for a walk to the waterfalls.  The Mishdish and Western Isles Hotel have lovely food - Cafe fish was closed...The fish and chip van was also a lovely treat.  The bakery had a fab selection of cakes....I would have no hesitation in recommending Mull to friends and would heartily suggest the cottage - out of season!  We pretty much had the place to ourselves - Bliss!!

Thank you so much for providing this luxurious haven of tranquility - a perfect tonic for the over hurly burleyed!  We did some "scallop diving" in Tobermory and cooked them at the cottage with ginger and garlic!!
A wonderful few days of discovery based in this warm and comfortable cottage that met our every need.  Loved the toasty cosy stove and the great weather you arranged. Many thanks.

I've had a most enjoyable week in this lovely cottage which lived to up expectations.  Explored most of the island and especially enjoyed the drive down the west coastal road to the Iona ferry.  Beautiful and unspoilt.

We've had a lovely 2 weeks here on Mull.  We love the island of Mull and this is our second visit and we enjoyed wildlife spotting -otters, seals, golden eagles, sea eagles, hen harriers, peregrine and lots of other birds.  The cottage has everything we need and will recommend Taigh Ciuil to our friends.

This is our 2nd visit to Taigh Ciuil and we have had a really good week.  We spent a day with Richard Atkinson's wildlife safari, spotting golden eagles, sea eagles and a short - eared owl, otters...and have re-visited and re-seen these rare species.  The trip to Ulva was lovely - walking boots necessary here and we have enjoyed eating out in the town.  A comfortable stay - the cottage has everything we need.  Thanks Petrea.

Lovely holiday home - cosy and comfy - views terrific.  Trips out - Arthur and Pam's Discover Mull is worth doing.  Walk to the Masts (towards Glengorm castle) - views amazing.  Staff is a must too.  We travelled from Suffolk - all on public transport - excellent journey but - buses good too.

We can only echo whats been written already.  We have been blessed with good weather.  Iona was magical with the air soft and warm...The views from the golf course in Tobermory are stunning.  We have found it very difficult to tear ourselves away from the view upstairs in the cottage.  It has been a joy to be here and thank you Petrea for providing us with such a comfortable cottage in such a magical spot.

After 2 weeks in the southern end of the island, it has made a really nice change to be based in Tobermory for our last week of our holidays.  We have enjoyed watching from the windows the comings and goings around the bay.  Been to the bakery too many times for cakes and goodies.  If you get the chance, visit or ring the artist Angus Stewart at his Artist Sudio on Breadalbane Street.  Thank you Petrea, we had a lovely week in your cottage

Lovely cottage.  Very well appointed and a great base to explore Mull.  We had stunning weather for March so made good use of the patio area - a 'suntrap' for having lunch outside.  Who would believe it - al fresco during March!  Cafe Fish is a great place to eat. We will recommend your cottage to family and friends.

We had a lovely week on Mull - only one wet day!  We have driven all over the island and have also done a lot of walking in and around Tobermory - we walked to the lighthouse and walked the Aros Park circuit.  We also did the forest walk to Ardmore Point and went to Iona for the day and had a lovely walk over the golf course there.  We have enjoyed the house very much and have been very confortable here.  We will miss waking up in the morning and admiring the secenry.  We will recommend the cottage to everyone

10th December 2011

We saw every kind of weather during our week here but the house was so cosy it never bothered us a bit.  We managed biking, walking, eating out, looked at Glengorm Castle and drove most of the coast.  We witnessed two sea eagles from the lounge window here at the cottage!  We also found a ship wreck and saw seals playing.  Thank you for a lovely stay.

Petrea
The purpose of my visit was to visit my close relative on Mull and secondly to 'Live the Dream' of residing in a bothy - albeit a very luxurious, warm and welcoming one with all mod cons! amid the majestic, beautiful and soothing sea and landscapes of which the Isle of Mull has in abundance.  Thank you so much.

Dear Petrea
We have enjoyed staying at Taigh Ciuil. its a really lovely comfortable house with all that we needed. We walked up to Glengorm Castle which was lovely. We went to see Staffa and Iona. Both were impressive - Fingles Cave is spectacular. We enjoyed exploring and enjoyed the stunning wildlife everywhere. We managed to see eagles on many occasions. If we should come back we would love to stay in this cottage again. Thank you.

Enjoyed our stay very much in this comfortable cottage. The weather was generally good. Enjoyed watching the boats and ships from the windows at the cottage and also the walks in the countryside. We even tried the bus to Fionnaport. We saw an otter and sea eagles at Calgary Bay and lots of butterflies.

20th - 27th August 2011

Thank you for a lovely relaxing holiday in your very cosy cottage. We had the most perfect time with the best of weather, scenery and seafood. We recommend a boat trip to the Treshnish Islands and Staffa - amazing wildlife and geology. Duart Castle and Iona also was very good. We've enjoyed going off the beaten track at Croig, Carsaig and Lochbuie, all of which are beautiful scenic places which made lovely picnic stops! We have loved the little town of Tobermory nd ill miss our ealy morning trips for breakfast at the bakery, as well as watching the boats go by. There are some lovely places to eat and the absolute best is Cafe Fish (make sure that you book in advance!!) The fish van also does excellent fish and chips. Goodbye little cottage and the wonderful island of Mull We hope we will be back soon and hope your next visitors have a lovely time as we did.

14th - 20th August 2011

We have very much enjoyed our stay in your lovely cottage. It is perfectly formed and we found it comfortable, well equipped and in a great location. We did not see anywhere else on the island that we'd rather have been. Our children have enjoyed exploring the beaches and castles of Mull with us. We had a beautiful boat trip and spotted seals and porpoises. The food that we have eaten on the island has been very good - tip of the week, remember to book for an evening meal a couple of days ahead of schedule.

23rd - 30th July 2011

This has been a lovely week to be on Mull. We found the cottage clean and very well equipped and the views from upstairs and downstairs enthralling. We had sunshine everyday. We recommend the walk through the forest to Ardmore Point. We saw our first golden eagles along Loch Frisa and love the drive to Ulva Ferry - spotting a sea eagle on the way. Iona was a long trip but worth it, allow at least 1 and half hours to get there. Calgary beach was busy, so you may not be able to park very close. We enjoyed eating out in Tobermory and found the 'Byre;' tearoom eccentric but generous, Thanks Petrea

16th - 23rd July

We have had a great week in this lovely little house. We've explored much of Mull. Good food is important to us and we were not disappointed. Special mention for Cafe Fish (this must be the best sea food in the area). Highland Cottage in Breadalbane Street, the tearoom at Calgary Art in Nature and of course the Fish & Chip van on the pier in Tobermory!! We found Arthur Brown to be very knowledgeable guide for wildlife (Discover Mull)

A most enjoyable relaxing week. Weather was fantastic, the bay picturesque, the restaurants very good and the accommodation itself very comfortable with all one would need at hand. First visit staying on Mull and would definitely return. Thank you Petrea

2nd July - 9th July

We have had the most wonderful time with friends. Mull is a magical place. Excellent night at the Mishnish, and fantastic exhibition at An Tobar. This is the most beautiful place to relax. Stunning views, lovely suntrap - great cottage for a 'girly weekend' away from the stress of life Catherine, Clare, Lynn and Claire - Edinburgh & Manchester

25th June - 2nd July

Fantastic wee house Petrea (I want it!), I'm so jealous! It has just been one great holiday, very relaxing. Everything you need is in this house. So comfortable here and delightfully pretty - the house and Tobermory. We went to Iona and did a spot of fishing. Lots of walks. Calgary Bay is so so so so beautiful. Will definitely come back and don't want to go home.

11th - 18th June

Tobermory is a colourful little town. We found Taigh Ciuil a beautiful, well appointed house in which we wanted for nothing. The weather was very kind to us with 6 sunny days and we had a glorious day to visit Iona. Keen bird watchers so took a wildlife trip with Mull wildlife tours. Saw sea eagles, golden eagles galore and another 50 species all in one day!! Peter Hall's knowledge of where to look and what we saw was invaluable and well worth the money. If you are a fish fan then Mull is the place to eat. Best restaurant is the Waterfront and MacGochans Pub is also a recommendation with scallops to die for. Coffee Pot, Salan has superb carrot cake. Try clooty dumpling with ice cream at the Old Byre, Dervaig. You may guess that we are fond of our grub.

6th - 11th June

We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay in your lovely well appointed cottage. It has been an ideal base for our 1st (and won't be our last) visit to Mull. We didn't bring or hire a car and found the public transport a great way to meet the local and some bus drivers have a great sense of humour (The bus to and from Craignure stops at the corner of Victoria Street, near the cottage)

28th May - 4th June

Thank you for the most enjoyable stay. The cottage is very homely and has everything that is required. In our week stay we managed to get around a lot of the island. We are keen birdwatchers, so the RSPB Loch Frisa and the other locations were superb for seeing the Golden Eagle and Sea Eagles. Iona is a lovely island to visit too. Bird watching and wildlife safari with Richard Atkinson was a wonderful day, a very informative man with all the local knowledge, is a must. Staff is fabulous too, best to book a trip in advance, as its very popular. We had a wonderful holiday on this magnificent Isle.
